    How did the Bay Area vote yesterday?

    Beltway dwellers go on about "San Francisco" values. One never hears about "Santa Clara values" or "Solano County values." Election results show that the region doesn't share a consistent set of political beliefs. Our back of the envelope analysis: The poorer counties — Contra Costa, Napa, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Solano — voted for Clinton, while the wealthier counties — Alameda, Marin, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Sonoma — voted for Obama. Here's the chart:


    As for the Republicans? McCain took around 50 percent of the vote across the board. Ron Paul maintained a Macintosh-like market share with 4-5 percent in most counties, though he managed 8 percent in San Francisco and 9 percent in Santa Cruz County.
