The Western Wall, or Kotel, has stood in Jerusalem for centuries, purported to be the last vestige of the Temple of David from the Old Testament. The practice of writing a prayer on paper, folding it and placing it in the cracks between the ancient bricks recently made news when Israeli newspaper Maariv published a note left by American presidential candidate Barack Obama.
