She is pretty obviously a total nutcake. I mean, first she goes to Yelp's offices to complain about a bad review, then she tracks down the poster of the review and shows up on his door step? I'm sorry, I just don't believe one thing she's saying about how she's the victim here. #oceanavebooks
Nooo no no. "I attempted to convey the seriousness of what was about to happen to me"?
There was no impending doom until this lady forced the issue. Just a bad review, then a stupid decision to make a bad situation worse by engaging online. And then she panicked and tried to circumvent the rules.
But you have to keep this sort of thing online. I worked in a very similar environment, and if people turned up, they got stopped at our front desk as well. #oceanavebooks
If her recounting of her visit to Yelp is accurate then I can understand her frustration, but "The real thing that upset me about the whole thing was that he made an irate message out of my emails and put them on Yelp" is just moronic.
Yes, of course, we all know full well that (1) we can fully control what the recipients of our emails do with them and (2) emails from a purported professional in a business context that include phrases like "pussy boy" and "you grew up in a bad family. Your mom was a bitch" are never, ever disclosed to anyone other than the recipient of said email. This woman is either the female Rip Van Winkle and has until recently been asleep since 1994, or not very bright or crazy. #oceanavebooks
She made the mistake of even responding to the review in the first place. Business owners never come off looking good responding to reviews. It always comes off hostile or like they're coming up with some lame excuse as to why they didn't provide good service. #oceanavebooks
@mfnher: Very true. It's like those pathetic letters in the Times Book Review: "I don't ordinarily respond to reviews, but in Joe Scjhmuck's review of my new book..." You know that letter is going to be a long, pathetic read and that the reviewer was probably right. #oceanavebooks
@TheBusinessGuy: You want to hear whiny? Here, listen to Todd Phillips who after a great interview with Elvis Mitchell on his show "The Treatment" rips into Elvis over some truly trivial nonsense: [www.kcrw.com]#oceanavebooks
Oh, you want a response, you have to appear in person. And it seems like a perfectly plausible business plan to me. Reviews of businesses are tacky and then the business is visited by a couple of guys named Guido and suddenly up pops an ad in Yelp and more pleasant comments follow and everybody's happy. If you ignore someone from the Gambino family selling "ads," what would you expect? This is bidness, people! #oceanavebooks

Hmmmm. I wonder how I’d look in pancake makeup and a Veronica Lake.

Bennett is totes adorable but this is the last time I let anything with a penis use my MixMaster. Keith is going to have to work on his pizza dough pre-doorbell buzz. There are only so many hours in the day I like to clean my ceiling.

Dammit, I knew I shouldn’t have let Julia borrow my boa for her "Dress as a MediaBistro Bimbo" theme party. It came back soaked in Triple Crown rum. Plus I think she tore off the little feathery bit at the end on one of her tit tassels. #druekataoka
@RollsRoyceRevenge: You already f-ing posted this on another thread. It's still not funny. Or relevant to this blog post. Also, too insidery. Also, shut up. #druekataoka
@RollsRoyceRevenge: I'm sorry I got snippy. This whole thread is getting on my nerves big-time.
I'm not going to claim that Kataoka comes across as a great contemporary art luminary, but the amount of venom sprayed at her on this thread by vile vipers that have crawled from under untold rocks irritates me.
The comparison to Julia Allison also irritates me, because it's facile and unwarranted except on a completely surface level.
Kataoka stated down-thread that the work she's auctioning off for a collaborative project was inspired by her father passing away, and THEN the "ugly," "unattractive," "shticky" comments really kicked in. That also irritates me.
