And yeah, that's all they're willing to tell us at this time.
Someone over at PriusChat dropped images of what appears to be the next generation Prius or at least a really fantastic photochop of what the new Prius mule looks like. Toyota has no comment on the image according to PriusChat, which is something that we're going to have to weigh. What do you all think? Is this the next generation 2010 Prius that we've all been waiting to see after seeing the really underwhelming teasers of the new Prius?

<![CDATA[New Toyota Prius Photo Is The Worst Teaser Shot We've Ever Seen]]>

If our sources at Green Hybrid are correct, this is a teaser for the upcoming 2010 Toyota Prius. No, really. Of course, we'd be surprised if anybody actually felt any sensation of anticipation from this photo. Who knew Toyota could release an even worse teaser than the first one? Although this shot does finally confirm speculation at least one part of the vehicle is capable of being opened and closed. Fascinating. We're going to take a nap now.

<![CDATA[BoothRank == 0]]> Google is a big believer in automation. But did it really mean to pay for prime real estate at a search conference and leave its booth unstaffed? A tipster says that a Google exhibit at last week's Enterprise Search Summit was devoid of Googlers as late as mid-morning on Thursday. Can you think of a better caption for this picture? If so, suggest it in the comments. The best one will become the new headline for this post. Friday's winner: ThatKid for "Reduced emissions from electric car offset by VCs' unwillingness to carpool." Read on for our tipster's report from the scene at Enterprise Search Summit:

While all of tech was focused this week on Oracle OpenWorld, some of us had to take the lovely trip down to San Jose to attend the Enterprise Search Summit and Streaming Media conferences. At Enterprise Search, the exhibit hall was filled with search vendors (Autonomy, FAST, now Microsoft, Dieselpoint, Attivio, Endeca, etc.) hawking the latest in indexing, search and retrieval solutions for the enterprise. Google was front and center with a big, shiny booth. However, by mid-morning on Thursday as the hall is jamming with folks getting their last demos and free tchotchkes, the Googlers were nowhere to be seen! Too much ruckus partying the night before? (I think not) Too busy installing Google Search Appliance hardware which is lacking in security, features, or support? Or did the Googlers realize that no one at the show was really interested in buying their product — which is good only if you just care about making sure the right lunch menu shows up on the company's intranet — and decided to go home???

I thought it was interesting that the biggest name in Search (well, at least Web search) called it quits so early on in the day. I mean this booth was like a freaking ghost town... where's the tumbleweed?

<![CDATA[Hybrid Mini Cooper Heading To LA Auto Show?]]> According to Car Magazine, they've shot pictures of a test mule for a forthcoming Mini Cooper hybrid. Along with the shots, they've also got a dose of scheduling speculation to go with it. They think the vehicle is scheduled for an LA Auto Show unveiling by BMW boss man Norbert Reithofer and the nil-emissions Mini will go on sale in California first. But how can they tell it’s electric? Well, it’s got big “Hybrid Test Vehicle” stickers slapped all over it.

Although you’d think they’d disguise the top-secret powerplant a bit better, the brand's got a history of thumbing its nose at the car paparazzi. Then there’s the complete and utter lack of any exhaust pipes. Oh, and the plug-shaped patch on the grille. Not much else is known, but, according to the magazine, a BMW insider did hint strongly that the use of the front-drive Mini over a RWD BMW is somehow significant. [via Car Magazine]

<![CDATA[Yahoo Hack Day restores API access between ex-lovers Cal Henderson and Leah Culver]]> For quippy superstar engineer Cal Henderson, the fellow who has kept Flickr from crashing all these years, attendance at Yahoo's Hack Day developer event was all but mandatory, since he works there. But what attracted Pownce cofounder Leah Culver, Henderson's ex-girlfriend? A Valleywag tipster's spy camera caught the two of them hard at work, laptops side by side. All business, clearly — until it came time for the awkward parting hug, and perhaps more. "Looked like they were kissing in the pic with him holding her, but can't say it looked very enthusiastic or romantic," our tipster analyzes. Full photos below, so you, too, can interpret the body language in the comments.

<![CDATA[Larry and Sergey brought wives to watch Google satellite launch]]> Google helped pay for this weekend's launch of a satellite which will take high-resolution imagery for its Google Earth service, and founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were on hand to watch the rocket lift off at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Serious business, right? Not when you see our spy photos of the billionaires. Brin wore bright orange Crocs and Page wore a red windbreaker. More tellingly, Brin brought Anne Wojcicki, his pregnant wife, and Page brought his wife Lucy. Both women also dressed informally. Wojcicki carried a plastic water bottle — funny, I thought Larry and Sergey had gotten rid of those at the Googleplex. It all looked like a lark for the billionaire couples, rather than a visit to a high-security military installation — paid for by Google's shareholders and U.S. taxpayers. At least Larry and Sergey seem to have flown their on their own dime — the photos show a Gulfstream V, one of the models in the Googlers' fleet of party planes. Admit it, you all wish you were Larry and Sergey, Crocs and all.

<![CDATA[Chevy Volt Fully Revealed With Corvette Centennial Concept In Transformers 2 Set Video]]> UPDATE #2: Check out our shots of the new Chevy Volt from the live reveal today in Detroit!
UPDATE: The Chevy Volt's been revealed — a little bit early — in living color and not just merely in the grainy cellphone camera video we've got in this post! Here it is kids: our first look at a 2010 Chevy Volt, complete and in-motion on the set of the still-in-production Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. We got a glimpse at the upper half of the Chevy Volt earlier this evening, but this is the whole enchilada: tail end, blacked-out roof, front end, and even the final Volt badge on the back. There happen to be other cars doing their thing, like the Corvette Centennial Design Concept, and of course the Chevy Camaro and Optimus Prime, but who cares? We finally get to see the skin of revolutionary car we can't get for at least another year and a half for an indeterminate price! Yay! Oh, wait...

<![CDATA[New Toyota Prius To Get Bigger, Smugger And Maybe Even Wagon, Convertible Versions]]> The folks over at Winding Road... err... NextAutos, have procured some more photos of the new Toyota Prius we caught earlier this month. The next-gen Prius was caught taking a couple turns around the block, showing off its new body and the expected to longer and wider size to give backseat passengers a bit more space and some added trunk storage and these new shots. The other additional features we've heard about — solar cells and a higher fuel economy — still can't be substantiated by these photos. However, NextAutos now adds another rumor to the list.

NextAutos whispers that the next-gen 2010 Toyota Prius could be part of

"a whole family of Prius models. That means that we also will see a station wagon and maybe even a convertible with the Prius badge."
So now you can have your smug little cake and eat it too. [NextAutos]]]>

<![CDATA[Honda's New Hybrid Prius-Fighter Caught Desert Testing, Listening To "Eye Of The Tiger"]]> No, it only looks like the Toyota Prius. The crafty car spies of KGP caught up again with the Honda engineering team in the hot desert sands out west. Just in the nick of time to take an exclusive first set of shots of Honda's new Prius-fighting hybrid. We don't know much about it other than we knew the boys from Honda had something in development to sit on top of Honda's hybrid hierarchy — in the slot just above the 2009 Honda Civic hybrid sedan we saw earlier today. We also know it'll be a global model. Otherwise, you're on your own. Hit the jump for the spy report.

We just caught Honda's hybrid-only model that's designed to take on the Toyota Prius. The shape and packaging of this prototype is clearly Prius-inspired, although the overall size looks larger than Toyota's hybrid favorite. The test group consisted of a Toyota Prius, Honda's facelifted Civic Hybrid, and this prototype, which is sure to be considered the top of Honda's hybrid vehicle range.

So, what do we think? Well, it looks a bit like a bulked-up Prius. Maybe the Honda's doing push-ups out there in the desert. However it's gotten that big, we're assuming because of the uncanny resemblance, it'll help sales.

Worst thing is, we don't even have a name for it, so feel free to tell us what you think they should call it in the comments below.

<![CDATA[2009 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan Gets A Face Lift]]> The quick-to-the-snap spy photographers at KGP caught this facelifted 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan out sunning itself in the California desert. This newly nipped and tucked 'lectrified Civic looks like it's getting a new front bumper with a three-intake design rather than the current single-holed intake. And check out that grille opening surrounding the big Honda "H." Yup, it certainly looks more angular to us. Check out the rest of the subtle changes below the jump in the full spy report.

We caught Honda testing a prototype for a facelifted Civic Hybrid in the California desert. The revamped Civic gets a new front bumper, with a three-intake design in place of the current model's single central intake. A redesigned, more angular grille-opening surrounds the Civic's familiar chrome bar containing the Honda "H." It also appears that the headlights' internals have been ever so slightly restyled. Although the changes to the Civic Hybrid's nose are quite subtle, the overall effect is significantly more sporty than today's model, which looks a bit soft by comparison.

This Civic's rear will also see some very minor changes to the tail-lights, and a new trim piece protrudes between the rear lamps. The rest of the Hybrid's rear-end appears unchanged.

<![CDATA[2010 Toyota Prius Caught Semi-Silently Prowling Streets Of San Fran?]]>

Is it the 2010 Toyota Prius? Maybe. All we know is it looks to be either a test vehicle for the next-gen Prius or the worst application of after-market Prius accessories we've ever seen. Unfortunately we're not expecting solar panels until the 2011 Prius, so that doesn't help us. Nor do we see any Chinese-made "Made In The USA" stickers — of course that won't be slapped on the side either until 2011, so there's really nothing we can see to distinguish this Prius from the 2009 Toyota Prius in front of it. Well, except for the heavy white tape and plastic. Although we shouldn't complain about this Prius' looks. At least it's not killing anyone. (Hat tip to Cord!) [Mr. Ben @ Flickr]

<![CDATA[Valleywag spots secret Yahoo conclave at D6]]> CARLSBAD, CA — On stage at D6, Sue Decker couldn't offer any explanation why she was qualified to be president of Yahoo. But if you ask Valleywag, she's doing a bang-up job of pursuing Yahoo's strategy of embracing openness. For example, by holding a meeting within camera-lens length of Valleywag in the Four Seasons Lobby Lounge. Our eye was first drawn by Yahoo Media Group chief Scott Moore's blindingly colorful Madras shirt; we then saw he was sitting with Decker. Two of the other participants: Gordon McLeod and Matthew Goldberg, business-side executives at Dow Jones, which means they were likely discussing some kind of news-content partnership between Yahoo and the Wall Street Journal. I'd thought I spooted Brad Garlinghouse, the Yahoo executive who wrote the famous "Peanut Butter Memo," in the group, but I'm told he wasn't there. I later spotted him strolling down the halls with Yahoo board member Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision. More pictures of the meeting:

<![CDATA[2011/2012 Chevy Volt]]>

Yes friends, we were the first to tell you that the Chevy Volt would be wending its way around town underneath the skin of old, dead Malibus back in September. Now we're the first to show you a picture of a Chevy Volt wending its way around town underneath the skin of an old, dead Malibu. Also, we were like, the second to bring you that Volt video a few weeks ago. So we've got that going for us too. Oh, and then there was that production shot of the Volt we saw at the end of last year. One more feather for the drips-and-dribbles from the General hat. Full spy report from the pride of Brenda Priddy's pride of spy photographers, Chris Doane, below.

The Chevy Volt (test mule)

Today we have the first rock solid evidence that the Chevy Volt has begun development. Hiding under a previous generation Malibu body, we saw GM starting to run the E-Flex powertrain through it paces on the track.

The General will hope to have the Volt on sale in late 2010 as a 2011MY car. However that timing will depend on how well the Lithium Ion batteries development progresses. A task given to Continental Automotive Systems and A123 Systems. It could very well be a 2012MY car by the time Volt's start rolling down the production line.

One thing we do know for sure if that the Volt will be riding on the next gen Delta chassis. This next gen chassis is also know as GM's "Global Compact Car Architecture." According UAW documents, GM seems set to build the Volt at their Hamtramck plant once the G-body Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS cease production.
Price wise, GM was hoping for an MSRP of around $30,000. It now seems that number may be closer to $35,000.

<![CDATA[Radio Reporter Sneaks Out First Video Of Chevy Volt Electric Car]]> UPDATE: The Chevy Volt Forum's got pictures from inside the design studio of the interior and a GM artists render of the front. Hit the jump to see it in all of its graininess. - Second update: now with a front end picture!Something we didn't tell you yesterday was that while we were in attendance at the GM event yesterday, we pulled out our cell phone to check a text message we'd just received. Immediately, GM PR was on top of us, confiscating the phone because it had a camera on it. OK, we could deal with that — we understood they didn't want the scoop to get out that we'd just seen both the first test mule of the Chevy Volt electric car (dressed up in the skin of a late model Chevy Malibu) and a scale model of what the actual Volt will look like when it hits the road in two years. But apparently some pigs are more equal than other at these embargoed and supposedly confidential press events. WWJ Radio's Jeff Gilbert has posted video of the battery lab and the wind tunnel we described from yesterdays Chevy Volt event at GM. We don't know how he got out of there alive with it, we don't know why GM officials weren't all over him for filming this and we don't know what the ramifications will be. But seriously though, who knew a radio reporter could be so sneaky, anyway? Kudos to Jeff on his liberation of the video. However, although we won't be the first ones to break embargoes, we also won't be the third. Without further ado, the video above tells the story we saw better than the words out of our fingertips.

Chevy-Volt-interior.jpgThat rendered image on the back wall, on the left side is very interesting don't you think?

2010-Chevy-Volt-Front.jpgNot saying nothing, but that may ring a bell from yesterday's event. Yeah, now that we take a look at that, it looks pretty darn familiar.

2010-Chevy-Volt-sneak-peek.jpgSeriously guy, stop digging stuff up, we're getting hungry here. This one looks like that one time when Bob Boniface lifted the sheets to reveal the restyled nose of the Chevy Volt except it's turned 90 degrees relative to the railing in the back from when we saw it! Draw your own conclusions from that.

<![CDATA[First Photos Of The New Toyota Prius!]]> Looks like the little hybrid that could —the Toyota Prius — is getting a bit of a face lift refresh before the next redesign. The spy shooters at KGP snapped shots of this prototype doing some hot-weather testing in Death Valley sporting a much more new Camry-like and Yaris-like grille. We'll let them explain what they saw after the jump.

The freshened Prius will get a new front fascia, including a new grille design which appears to take after the corporate grille design seen on the Camry and the Yaris. The prototype's headlights have also been radically reshaped, ditching the current car's elongated lights. The old lights nearly reached back to the Prius' A-pillars, but the new lights are smaller, angular clusters set wide on the front-end. The result is a much more mainstream styling treatment. The bumper-mounted air-intake also looks to have been reshaped, but the heavy white tape obscures the true extent of the changes...The rest of the Prius appears to be unchanged on this prototype—a true facelift indeed, without any changes to the car's posterior.
