Alex Vieux is publisher of a legendary tech title, the Red Herring; the French magnate, scion of one of the oldest Jewish families in Haiti, heads one of the most prestigious international conferences, Dasar; a graduate of France's elite Institute d'Etudes Politiques, he's now a visiting professor at the Sorbonne; and Vieux is fabulously well connected. Though maybe not as fabulously as he'd like you to believe. One reporter he tried to hire for the Red Herring remembers the interview being interrupted by a call from Mike Moritz, the Valley's leading venture capitalist. Which would have been impressive were it not for the fact that Vieux makes such a conspicuous habit of taking calls from the Sequoia Capital partner. From a profile by Matt Marshall for the San Jose Mercury News: "During a recent interview, he gets interrupted by an assistant, who says Sequoia Capital's Michael Moritz is on the phone."
