    The Lobby

Oh, no, yet another conference. Dave Hornik, a frustrated journalist with a day job at August Capital, has sent out invitations to an event in Hawaii in October. Truth be told: this one doesn't sound too bad. Hornik's event is a conference, but without the conference: it's called The Lobby, because that's where, even at orthodox confabs, the most interesting action takes place. At most conferences, such as the Web 2.0 event at the Hotel Palace in San Francisco, lobby lurking is free; at Hornik's Big Island extravaganza, however, it will cost you $3,000. The pitch, after the jump.
    Howdy —

As many of you know, I have been working for the better part of the last year and a half on creating a new conference that promises to be the new media gathering of the year. The conference is called The Lobby because I believe that the most interesting conversations at all conferences take place in the lobby. As a result, I have created an event that is focused on the conversations, rather than the "content" — at The Lobby, the conversations will be the content.

The Lobby is an invite only event that will take place on Hawaii's Big Island in late October. The folks attending the conference will be the leaders of the startup world, the new media world and the traditional media world. Which is, of course, why I'd love to have you there. (You can see a complete list of the invitees on The Lobby's website.) I'd be honored if you would consider joining the event.

Here is a link to the official invitation video. It should give you a bit more of a sense of the event, and hopefully a laugh or two.

Because The Lobby is an invite only event, the website is password protected.

    password: thelobby

The size of The Lobby will be strictly limited to 150 people in order to assure the best possible conversations. As a result, I will be accept registration on a first come first served basis. So if you're interested, be sure to sign up as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I'm certain The Lobby is going to be an unforgettable event and I look forward to seeing you in Hawaii in October.

    All my best,

    DAVID
