Marc Benioff, friend of dolphins and the Dalai Lama, recently announced that Salesforce would give money to protect the Makira forest of Madagascar and a wind farm on a Sioux Indian reservation. All part of an effort to offset the software company's carbon consumption, and save the planet. Laudable, except that the Salesforce chief exec also decided to send media kits in the mail rather than electronically, so that he could include chocolates and train sweet-toothed journalists into opening the packages. One recent bundle of swag, sent from Salesforce's San Francisco headquarters to Business 2.0's nearby office in the city center, traveled 40 miles as it bounced around Fedex's delivery network.
