Vacation's over

Remember how, during the downturn, all the Valley playboys migrated to Los Angeles to sun themselves in Malibu, get into movies and, some of them would even admit, to date a higher quality of woman. Well, they're back. The returnees, after the jump...

Marc Andreessen, founder of Netscape and Opsware, is selling his house in the Los Angeles hills, now that he's back full-time. Most of Andreessen's time is taken up with Ning, his Silicon Valley startup. And he recently married Laura Arrillaga, the daughter of local real estate developer, John Arrilllaga.

David Sacks, formerly chief operating officer of Paypal, left the Valley, like Jeff Skoll of eBay, to pursue a career in Hollywood. A surprisingly successful career, actually. Hollywood is notorious for fleecing wealthy outsiders, who invest in the industry for the glamor. But Thank You For Smoking, which Sacks produced, was profitable and critically acclaimed. Not profitable enough, obviously. Sacks has watched other Paypal alumni, like Chad Hurley with Youtube, cash in on the new wave of interest in the internet. He's said to be planning his own tech-related venture, though not a move.

Bill Lee of RemarQ was brought up in L.A. and went back there after selling his messageboard company to Critical Path. He's said to be back in town.

The one exception: Larry Ellison, boss of Oracle and a famous connoisseur of the female form. An informant writes: You could say all the tech peeps are going back north because ellison has bought all of malibu. Where he DOES spend a great deal of time. :)

People say George Zachary of Charles River Ventures spent time down in L.A. before he married. Anyone else? The comments are open.
