PAUL BOUTIN - Thanks to a little-known city regulation, public drinking turns out to be
totally cool on the city's
South Park lawn south of Market Street.
The City Star reports that Park Code Section 410 allows public drinking in parks, except for a list of fifty or so locations. The list doesn't include South Park, the circular block between Second and Third just south of Bryant shared daily by winos, webmonkeys and
Wired staffers on break. As long as you stay away from the curb until you're sober, you're safe. But hurry up with that kegger - neighborhood residents have gotten an ordinance approved in committee to ban the booze. [UPDATE: We've been notified there's an informal BYOB gathering in South Park at 5pm today, Friday 2/23. Party for your right to fight!] All
San Francisco needs now is a parallel Park Code Section 420.
