One downside of the boom: San Francisco's top restaurants are harder to get into than they've been since 2000. But there are a few tricks. Debbie Phan, manager of the Asian restaurant,
Slanted Door, can be emailed at debbie@slanteddoor.com. Here's the back door to
Michael Mina's San Francisco flagship: eat at one of the restauranteur's
other properties, and ask the staff there to make the reservation. And
Myth, the hip joint on Jackson Street, may not be as impenetrable as its reputation would suggest: call hostess Eloisa Castillo at 9pm for next-day reservations. And, according to the Wall Street Journal, the best time to reserve a table at Quince, Michael Tusk's ridiculously popular Italian eatery, is at noon, precisely one month before you want a table. And if you care that much about a meal, even for Quince's pici with goose ragu, you need to see a therapist.
