The notoriously bad cell-phone coverage around Sand Hill Road is such a bother that a Silicon Valley nonprofit has decided to concentrate on the need for more cell-phone towers on the peninsula. Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network is the same group responsible for failing to implement blanket Silicon Valley with wireless access. Why the need to concentrate on cell phones, as opposed to, say, unaffordable housing or empty food banks? Because, according to Joint Venture president Russell Hancock, "People complain about this all the time... You've got an executive who has no problem talking on cell phones in Mongolia, and the next week he's on Sand Hill Road trying to close a deal and he loses his signal." Tragic, we agree.
