Wired Magazine, for its current issue, was planning to run a photo of Chad Hurley, startup stud, you know, to go alongside its cover story, YouTube Grows Up. Hurley, who co-founded YouTube, is not bad looking, for a geek; Wired had some nice shots; and, since selling the video sharing service to Google for $1.65bn, he's tech's latest success story. But Conde Nast magazines such as Wired test their covers with a panel, to see how they'll sell on the newsstand. It's like a Hot or Not bakeoff, except retro. And Hurley flunked, which is why you see a reclining photograph of lonelygirl, the Myspace sensation, instead.
